WOW – What a week in Mexico!
I’ve just returned from an amazing week in Mexico as part of our Brilliant Travel Top Sellers Trip, and what an experience it was!
I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such an amazing travel family, where we are privileged to enjoy experiences like this as a reward for all our hard work. It’s certainly one of the perks of the job!
A huge thank you to TUI Airways, Hyatt and Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) for looking after us and making the week so special.

Getting to Mexico – Direct from Glasgow with TUI Airways
We flew direct from Glasgow to Cancun with TUI Airways, whose direct flights operate from May to October.
I was really impressed with the experience. The staff were extremely friendly, with generous legroom, excellent meals and snacks, and, a great choice of onboard entertainment.
The flight out was approximately 10 hours, with the return journey taking around 9 hours overnight.
We also kicked off our trip in style with access to the Lomond Lounge at Glasgow Airport. It’s a fantastic way to escape the hustle and bustle of the main terminal, relax before your flight and enjoy complimentary food and drinks. You could even enjoy a little alcoholic beverage at 6.30am if you fancied it!
On arrival in Cancun, our transfer was only around 15 minutes, meaning we were literally on a sunbed by 3pm. Now that’s how you start a holiday!
We were also treated to gorgeous weather throughout the week, with temperatures around 30 degrees and very little rain.

First Stop – 5* Secrets Mirabel, Cancun
Our first hotel was the beautiful 5 Secrets Mirabel*, located right on the beach in Cancun’s Hotel Zone.
It’s in a great position – close enough to enjoy all the action Cancun has to offer, but far enough away that you’re not right in the middle of the busiest areas.
The hotel had a lovely young, lively vibe, with fantastic poolside entertainment, a swim-up bar and several infinity pools overlooking the gorgeous beach.
There was a great choice of restaurants, and we managed to dine in quite a few during our stay, including a fantastic Asian restaurant. The buffet was also excellent, particularly at breakfast, with plenty of choice.
For a bit of pampering, you could enjoy various treatments at the beautiful outdoor spa, with a gorgeous sunset view.
We were lucky enough to enjoy a club Junior Suite Sea View room, which certainly didn’t disappoint. Club rooms also give added benefits – such as a club lounge, additional restaurants and the sky bar with amazing sunset views.
One of my favourite moments was leaving the balcony doors open at night and falling asleep listening to the sound of the waves crashing onto the beach. Just perfect!
You aren’t too far away from the ferry terminal to Isla Mujeras, which is just gorgeous – great for snorkelling and beautiful beaches. You can even hire a buggy to go round the Island.
We also enjoyed a morning out at La Isla – great shopping outlets, eateries and entertainment venues. You can also take a ride on the skywheel, where you overlooking the hotel zone area of Cancun and Nichupté Lagoon.

A Night Out at Coco Bongo!
No trip to Cancun would be complete without experiencing Coco Bongo, and we enjoyed a fantastic night there.
I can honestly say it was one of the best nights out I’ve had in a long time! I can’t remember the last time I was out until 2am!
It’s so much more than a nightclub, with live entertainment throughout the evening, including comedy sketches, dancing, acrobats, huge balloons and, of course, plenty of alcohol!
Definitely an experience worth adding to your Cancun holiday.

Second Stop – 5* Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya
For the next four nights, we moved to the 5 Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya*, which offered a completely different atmosphere to our first hotel.
Think chilled-out luxury, an amazing beach and much more low-key evening entertainment.
Again, the choice of restaurants was fantastic, with a lovely pool area and plenty of activities to enjoy throughout the day.
We enjoyed a club room again, which also gives the added benefit of a club area on the beach as well as the lounge and additional restaurant.
It was a lovely contrast to the livelier atmosphere of Cancun and a great opportunity to experience a different side of Mexico. You are also close to Playa del Carmen and the ferry terminal to Cozumel for a great day out.

A Day at Sea – Norwegian Aqua with NCL Cruises
One of the other highlights of our trip was spending a fabulous day onboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Aqua.
This was my second time visiting this ship, and seeing it again meant I had more time to take everything in and appreciate just how much it has to offer.
I’m also a bit of a thrill seeker, so I was particularly excited to experience the Drop and the Aqua Coaster – absolutely brilliant!
We enjoyed a lovely lunch at Indulge Food Hall, which features a fantastic selection of international food stations. Naturally, I felt the need to try a little bit of everything!
The entertainment facilities onboard are second to none. There’s something for everyone, including:
- Retro arcade games and Glow Court.
- Revolution – the first-ever Prince show at sea.
- A spectacular three-storey Aqua Theatre.
- Live music at Syd Norman’s Pour House.
- Comedy shows and a nightclub.
- Rumours – a fantastic Fleetwood Mac tribute show.
There really is so much to see and do onboard Norwegian Aqua, and it’s a ship I’d happily return to again.

All Good Things Must Come to an End!
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and before we knew it, our week in Mexico was over.
From the fantastic TUI flights from Glasgow, gorgeous hotels and unforgettable nights out to experiencing Norwegian Aqua again, it really was a trip to remember.
I’ve come home with some amazing memories, lots of new experiences and even more knowledge to share with my customers.

Would I go back to Mexico? Absolutely!
In fact, I don’t think it will be too long before I’m back again!
If Mexico is on your holiday wish list, I’d love to help you find the perfect hotel, whether you’re looking for a lively break in Cancun, a chilled-out luxury escape or a combination of both.
With Julie, it’s brilliant!
